Transfer Student Waiver of MCWP 40

Fall 2024 MCWP 125/125R/50 classes are full. MCWP 40 waivers will be processed before enrollment for Winter 2025

Effective Fall 2017, transfer students from California Community College who did not complete IGETC may apply to waive MCWP 40 and satisfy the Muir College Writing requirement with one course, MCWP 125 (or MCWP 50), if they have completed the two composition courses required for IGETC certification areas 1A and 1B at their California Community College with a grade of C or higher.

ONLY 2 CLASSES FROM CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY COLLEGES WILL WORK FOR THIS. AP credit DOES NOT APPLY. Coursework from any school other than a California Community College DOES NOT APPLY.

I meet all of the following criteria: I was admitted as a transfer student. (Students admitted through the freshman admission process are ineligible for this exception.) I completed courses at a California community college that would satisfy IGETC areas 1A and 1B with grades of C or better BEFORE I transferred to UC San Diego. (Students who did not complete coursework for areas 1A and 1B or who completed course work after transfer are ineligible for this exception) Both courses appear on my UCSD Academic History.
