UC San Diego Department of Music Spring Festival 2026 - Call for Scores - String Quartet

Call for Scores – String Quartet (with or without Electronics)

The UC San Diego Spring Festival invites composers to submit works for string quartet, with or without electronics, for consideration in the 2026 festival, taking place April 17–19, 2026 in San Diego, California.

Selected works will be performed by the festival’s string quartet, I/0 Quartet, in a public concert at the Conrad Prebys
Concert Hall (exact date and time to be announced after submission deadline), as part of a program highlighting contemporary music by composers from across the United States.

Submission Guidelines

● Instrumentation: String quartet (electronics optional)
● Duration: 8–10 minutes
● Eligibility: Open to composers of all backgrounds currently residing in the United States
● Composition Date: Works composed after 2023 are preferred
● Festival Dates: April 17–19, 2026
● Submission Deadline: February 25, 2026 (11:59 PM PT)
● Notification of Results: March 10, 2026
Selection Process

Approximately five composers will be selected. Submissions will be reviewed and judged primarily by the I/0 Quartet members, with attention to musical clarity, originality, performability, and alignment with the quartet’s artistic interests and performance practices within the festival context.
Materials & Deadlines After Selection

Parts will be required by March 15, 2026
Final performance details, including rehearsal schedules and electronics setup, will be communicated after selection
